Grandfather loved Ukraine

His life had one thing in common with one of the pages in the biography of the USSR — it was a fascinating belief in the bright future of the happy society of the planet — when in the 30s of the 20th century the beginning of the end of the world reconstruction and the notorious unity of proletarians of all countries was laid. Stalinism was immersed in the dismal labyrinth of the socialist procession of the Soviet people in a dead end. The state policy of the Bolshevik leaders, which had completely exhausted the meaning of Lenin's interpretation of Karl Marx Capital, became a werewolf among the masses. The theory of the new propaganda of the bright ideals of the Builders of a new society was born. One of the victims of the ruling inquisitorial commissioners of the Union of Fraternal Peoples, became my grandfather - a doctor at one of the hospitals in the city of Kiev - Sigismund Jan Leon Zavistovsky. A graduate of the Medical Faculty of the Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev, along with fellow student Mikhail Bulgakov, on October 20, 1916, received diplomas of newly baked doctors. But the career paths of young doctors went their ways along the beaten path - grandfather ... to the front of the First World War, and Bulgakov ... to the writer's writing desk. Until the end of the war in 1918, the grandfather was the commander of the military ambulance trainer Liter R No. 202 on many fronts, until the end of hostilities and a truce on the Romanian front, for which, in the Mogilyov tsar's headquarters, was awarded a golden sword. Selflessly devoted to the Hippocratic Oath, uttered by him on the graduate pedestal Alma Mater, after the war, the grandfather works in remote, aggravated by diseases, corners of the Russian state. The measured philistine well-being of the former front-line officer was not for such a mobile and brave person as this noble and human-loving doctor was. The pain of other people he took as his own. And wherever he was - in the hard times of the civil war, or in the most difficult conditions of the recovery period in the USSR - nothing could mar the hardened goodwill of the doctor hurrying to help people in distress. He leads a selfless struggle for a healthy society. And in 1935, Zavistovsky’s doctors were appointed as a sanitary inspector at the Kiev Special Commission for Combating Unsanitary. He revealed himself as a highly qualified doctor ... He, at the same time, did a lot of social work on sanitary education. So, in 1936, at a conference of doctors and patients, the speakers welcomed the progressive initiative of a humanist doctor. And his advanced method - home care by local doctors - was approved. And, in 1937, on the initiative and development of Dr. Zavistovsky, a new system of home care for patients was introduced in all polyclinics of the city of Kiev. And in the middle of 1937, the family of the doctor was given a two-room apartment on the central street of the city, Lysenko, 4. But not for long ... Soon followed the arrest - October 29, 1937 - and the shooting in the basements of the building of the former institute of noble maidens, an architectural monument of the 19th century, built in 1842. In the 30s of the 20th century, turned into a punitive body of the NKVD (KGB). In 1957, the bloody place was turned into an entertainment center of culture under the guise of the October Palace... The body of Dr. Zavistovsky, like the body and other innocent victims, was taken to a mass grave site in the forests of the Bykivnia region, near Kiev. So, after 81 years of silence, the time for memory has come ... After my participation in the Canadian government action to raise funds to establish a memorial to the victims of communism in the capital of Canada, Ottawa. Among the numerous names engraved on the future memorial will be the name of my grandfather - Sigismund Jan Leon Zavistovsky. And, behold, with the misfortune that happened to my mother in Ukraine, in the city of Kiev, I went to her rescue. Also, during communism, before emigration, I conducted an unofficial investigation of the cause of the communist crime. I continue this work now, in search of the genealogical tree, the offspring of the Krzhizhanovskys family branch - the mother of grandfather Leontina - the leading from the mother of the Polish composer Frideric Chopin Justina Krzhizhanovskaya. In the future, I plan to contact the city authorities to discuss the establishment of a memorial plaque on a residential building on Lysenko Street, 4, from where, into obscurity, my grandfather went ... As the wise men say, God will help me!
